About Safecity App

Safecity is an app that aims to make cities safer by mapping incidents of harassment, crime and violence.

Safecity plays a crucial role in addressing Gender Based  Violence (GBV) by providing a platform for survivors/victims to report all forms of violence, and for policymakers and law enforcement agencies to access data and information on GBV incidents.

Safecity also identifies danger hotspots and trends, and informs targeted interventions to improve safety and security for vulnerable groups.

Nigeria needs the Safecity App to address the problem of gender-based violence and harassment, improve safety and security for all, and promote gender equality and social inclusion.

WHAIafrica is piloting Safecity in Nigeria in collaboration with Red Dot Foundation and Vital Voice Global Partnerships.

Why Safecity?

Nigeria faces numerous challenges related to safety and security. Many young vulnerable Nigerians face harassment and discrimination in public spaces, such as streets, public transportation, markets etc.

Reporting channels for GBV survivors are limited or inaccessible in certain parts of Nigeria. Many survivors face barriers when reporting incidents due to fear, stigma, or a lack of trust in the justice system. Survivors are threatened not to report or speak about their experience. Those who reported are faced with stigma and bad-mouthing.

Safecity provides an outstanding anonymous reporting system that allows individuals to share their experiences without revealing their identity.

This encourages more survivors to report their experience, making it more inclusive and accessible to individuals who may not have access to traditional reporting channels.

Access and report with Safecity app nationwide is free.
