Project Summary
The Girls Lead Club established in rural communities after the COVID-19 lockdown helped returned vulnerable girls to school and prevent those at the verge of dropping out.
However, lack of access to hygienic menstrual pads and reoccurrence of vaginal infections due to unhygienic menstrual practices keep them away from school. Missing classes during menstrual cycles, occasioned with them looking for money to buy/procure pads leads sexual violence, unwanted pregnancies and underage marriages.
In this project, Menstrual Health Hygiene Education will be provided in the LGA with distribution of certified Pad-Up Reusable Menstrual kit to 1500 school girls.
What is the issue or problem?
In certain rural communities and IDP camps there is a high rate of school dropouts among the girls. From staying away from school during their periods due to inability to afford sanitary pads monthly, to finally dropping out.
After corporates and NGOs donated disposable pads, most families with more than two girls cannot afford to continue buying disposable pads for the subsequent months.
Due to this, girls improvise by using things like dry leaves, rags, tissue papers etc. All these expose them to different infections like vaginal, urinary and reproductive tract infections.
They are also lured by sugar daddies to get money for pads, hence, they keep falling victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

How will this solve the problem?
The project will directly impact 3000 women and girls and indirectly over 5000; keep 1,500 girls in school during their menstrual periods and more other 2000 school girls would stop missing schools during menstruation with the Reusable Pads from the Pad-Up Ambassadors ; reduced vaginal, urinary or reproductive tract infections; experience general wellbeing.

We sensitize, train and health educate 3000 women and girls on Menstrual Hygiene, while providing 1,500 free reusable pads to 1500 girls in school which will last for maximum of 3 years.
Two Pad-Up Ambassadors from the community would be trained and empowered to carry on the Hygiene awareness and sale of subsidized Reusable pads to more vulnerable women and girls. By this we are building startups among them.
Pad-Up Menstrual Kit and Washable Pad offers sustainable solution to menstrual issues, allowing the girls to have access to sanitary pad irrespective of their economic class. The pad is designed with a permanent bonded antimicrobial technology that efficiently reduces the concentration of fungi and bacteria, which then help reduce the risk of infections the girls do experience.
Potential Long Term Impact
SAVES THE ECOSYSTEM: When one uses or promotes NAFDAC certified reusable pads, he/she is reducing the amount of chemicals and harmful substances that goes into the ecosystem.
Disposable pads don’t decay because of the synthetic leather in them; hence they affect the ecosystem and increase environmental issues.
